Marco Polo is remembered as the pioneer of the Silk Road, the ancient network of trade routes that connected the West and the East. His journey, which began in 1271, took him through some of the most emblematic stops of the time: from his native Venice across the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, through the vast expanses of Anatolia and the imposing Iranian plateau, to the caravan cities of Samarkand and Bukhara. He continued through the Taklamakan Desert and the Pamir Mountains, finally reaching the court of Kublai Khan in China. The watch's case back pays homage to Marco Polo's legendary journey with a detailed engraving of his map. Starting from Venice, the route crosses the Middle East and Asia, passing through historic cities such as Constantinople, Baghdad, and Samarkand, to reach Beijing, the capital of the Mongol Empire. After serving at Kublai Khan's court, the journey continues along maritime routes to Hangzhou, before taking the return path to Venice.
